    THE WILDLIFE CONSERVATION BOARD, PHASE I ENVIRONMENTAL SITE ASSESSMENT, STONE RIDGE RANCH

    Chico Environmental was retained by the Wildlife Conservation Board to conduct a Phase I Environmental Site Assessment (ESA) on approximately 800 acres in north Chico. The site had been a working cattle ranch since the 1890s and contained an old well and homestead, as well as a High Frequency Power Line easement. Chico Environmental recommended that the well be abandoned per state regulations, and that erosion control measures by implemented for erosion that was occurring on the access roads to the power lines.

    THE NATURE CONSERVANCY, PHASE I AND PHASE II ENVIRONMENTAL SITE ASSESSMENT, NELSON RANCH

    Chico Environmental prepared a Phase I Environmental Site Assessment (ESA) for the Nelson Ranch property in Siskiyou County. Nelson Ranch is an approximately 1,700 acre working cattle ranch east of the town of Grenada in Siskiyou County. The property includes three miles of Shasta River front. Issues included site contamination from incineration of refuse and an old automotive repair area. An above-ground storage tank exists on the subject property, and Chico Environmental recommended secondary containment. In addition, two old electric transformers, potentially contaminated with PCB's were found on power poles on the property. Chico Environmental recommended that they be removed by Pacific Power, which serves Siskiyou County.

    Chico Environmental also conducted a Phase II Environmental Site Assessment on the property, including soil testing, and remediation and disposal of soil contaminated with motor oil and lead.

    Chico Environmental is preparing an opportunities and constraints analysis for the Karuk Tribe.
    Chico Environmental prepared an Opportunities and Constraints Analysis for the Karuk Tribe’s water resources. The Karuk Tribal lands are scattered along the Klamath River in Sisikiyou County. The report included an analysis of property boundaries, soils, geology, hydrology, slope, and vegetation. We also researched grant and funding opportunities and recommended that the Tribe pursue Treatment as a State status, and begin developing water quality standards.

    CITY OF CORNING HOUSING ELEMENT UPDATE, INITIAL STUDY AND NEGATIVE DECLARATION

    Chico Environmental was retained by the City of Corning Department of Planning to prepare environmental documentation under CEQA for the 2003 - 2008 Housing Element Update. Issues analyzed related to the introduction of 351 new housing units within the City of Corning included air quality, the provision of public services and utilities, and biological resources. A Negative Declaration was prepared and submitted to the State Clearinghouse and responsible and trustee agencies for public review.
